After a record Nasdaq rout, ANT valuation talk slides toward $1.2 trillion

Thursday's record one-day loss in tech stocks has prospective ANT buyers discussing a valuation of $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion, with some as low as $1.1 trillion, ahead of marketing that is still expected next week. The Wall Street Journal reports Anthropic's run rate passed $80 billion in October. Separately, Anthropic apologized after Claude Code was found putting users' account emails into web requests, and Microsoft says Claude in Copilot will process EU customer data inside its EU Data Boundary by year-end.

The brief

  1. 01Bloomberg's source says potential buyers are now discussing $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion, down from $1.4 trillion to $1.5 trillion, after the Nasdaq 100 lost a record $2.3 trillion on Thursday. One WSJ source suggested a number closer to $1 trillion. Nothing is final.
  2. 02According to the Journal, Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate topped $80 billion at the end of October, and it had $146.6 billion in cash on September 30. Executives are expected to meet soon about IPO plans.
  3. 03Claude Code sometimes put the signed-in user's email address in the User-Agent of curl calls to sites like SEC EDGAR and Wikipedia. Anthropic says next week's release removes the email from the model's context, and version 2.1.317 and later asks before sending it.
  4. 04Microsoft says EU and EFTA organizations will be able to use Claude in Copilot, including Copilot Cowork, with processing inside the EU Data Boundary by the end of 2026.

ANT valuation talk falls to $1.2–1.3 trillion after the Nasdaq's record one-day loss

Some buyers float $1.1 trillion. Anthropic could still start formal marketing next week with a smaller, more cautious deal.

Ahead of formal IPO marketing expected next week, potential ANT buyers are discussing a valuation of $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter. Some are weighing a figure as low as $1.1 trillion. Before this week, some investors had told the banks running the deal that $1.4 trillion to $1.5 trillion looked fair, and estimates in early October went as high as $2 trillion. The shift came after the Nasdaq 100 fell 6.4% on Thursday and lost $2.3 trillion in market value, a record for one day. Bloomberg says Anthropic could open with a conservative size and valuation and raise both if demand is strong. An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday night that three major investors planning to take part expect the valuation to come down, with one suggesting it could land closer to $1 trillion. Another raised the possibility of a delay, and a smaller raise is also on the table. According to the Journal, Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate topped $80 billion at the end of October, up from September, and the company had $146.6 billion in cash on September 30. Executives and advisers are expected to meet in the next few days. The Journal links the selloff to Tuesday's midterms, which brought a bloc of AI skeptics into office and passed measures that could slow data center construction.

All of this is reported, not confirmed. Anthropic has not filed a price range, and the target listing is still the week before Thanksgiving.

Anthropic apologizes after Claude Code sent users' emails to the sites it visited

Claude had the account email in its context and sometimes used it as a contact address in web requests.

A GitHub issue filed November 5, which drew more than 700 thumbs-up and a busy Hacker News thread, reports that Claude Code put the user's account email into the User-Agent header of web requests during research. The reporter blames it for dozens of scam emails a day. An earlier issue described three subagents sending a user's email to SEC EDGAR nine times in September and October, despite an instruction not to share it. Some sites, including the SEC and Wikipedia, ask automated clients to identify themselves with a contact address, and Claude sometimes filled in the one it had.

Claude Code's Lydia Hallie wrote on Hacker News that the email was added to the model's context because Claude had been making up names for things like @author tags. She apologized and said the next release, expected early next week, removes the email from the model's context. Until then, version 2.1.317 and later includes a built-in privacy mod, on by default, that asks before a web tool call or curl-style command includes the email. She said it does not catch every case, such as scripts Claude writes and runs itself, and commenters say they have gotten around it. The stable channel was still on 2.1.311, so users should update.

Claude in Microsoft Copilot will keep EU customer data inside the EU Data Boundary

Expected by the end of 2026. Claude in Copilot stays off by default for EU and EFTA organizations unless an admin turns it on.

Microsoft said Thursday that by the end of 2026, organizations in the EU and EFTA will be able to use Claude models across Copilot, including Copilot Chat, Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps, Copilot Cowork and Copilot Code, with processing inside its EU Data Boundary, where their data is already stored.

Organizations already using Claude in Copilot don't need to do anything, because processing will move into the boundary automatically once it's ready. Claude stays off by default in the EU and EFTA, and admins can turn it on for all users or for selected groups in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The post doesn't mention the UK or give an exact date.
